Serpente Martinelli by Elio Martinelli, Italy (1960)
The iconic Serpente (or snake) by Martinelli, designed by Elio Martinelli for Martinelli Luce. 1960. The chrome version is the first edition; later editions were no longer made in chrome. Heavy steel base with a rubber bottom plate, very stable. The shade can be adjusted in any direction, white hard plastic shade. Marked under the base. Iconic design, very characteristic of the 'mid-century' period, also known as the Space Age era. It's in my personal Top 10 Most Beautiful Lamps Ever!
- Shade height: 23 cm
- Shade diameter: 45 cm
- Base plate diameter: 23 cm
- Total height: 47 cm
- Weight: 11kg
Chrome is still in exceptionally beautiful condition; often, the base is 'polished away' and dull. Very good vintage condition with minor signs of age. No cracks/breaks and/or deformation of the shade (often occurring due to the use of old incandescent bulbs and their released heat in the past).
